My SIL summoned me the other day to have a look at her laptop. She keeps getting a pop-up saying:-

'The gadgets.live.com server at the DSL router requires a user name and password' - and then has boxes below to enter her username and password.

Does anyone know what this is and if its genuine? And if its something dodgy, how to get rid of it?? Its certainly very annoying, if she closes it down it just comes back again a short while later!

Andrew,
Ask her to get the latest Windows updates, searching has discovered a couple of times where people have had this problem and then the latest update has cured it.

Does she use Windows Live at all? Because it looks to be associated with that.

Cheers Dave,

I'll tell her to check she's got the latest updates. From what i've found i'm thinking it could be something connected to 'Windows Gadgets' which is a feature of Vista? The personalised addition of clocks, weather updates e-mail/messengers alerts etc.... fixed onto the Vista desktop??

Will see if the updates clear it up.
