Hello

I'm going to renew the skirting board in my kitchen and wondered what gap to leave between the boards and the floor, since all the skirting in my 1960's house have a gap.

So I rang my local carpet supplier, who I'll probably get to do the flooring, and they asked me to leave no gap at all. Fit the skirting flush to the floor.

Out of curiosity, is this the modern way of fitting skirting with no gap please?

I'm convinced the gap under skirting was to tuck carpet under as I've seen so many houses with a gap however, I'm told no. It was never a thing.
Many fill the gap and prefer skirting to sit tight to floor
