Hi all,
I noticed some dropped mortar bits on the exterior side of our sliding patio door, and saw that the old mortar was missing in places and cracked in others.
I removed all the all mortar and I can now see a gap between the top of the frame and the metal lintel. The mortar I removed was covering from the top of the frame to the bottom of the bricks - the frame is a bit forward than the lintel.
I am thinking of squiring some expanding foam in the gap, but I am not sure how to seal it afterwards?
Options I am considering:
1. Mortar (basically restoring things as they were before): I guess I need "buff" or "beige", but not sure if I would be able to tool it as a square?
2. UPVc cloacking trim, and then seal around the edges with silicone.
3. Silicone only the bit from frame to bottom of lintel and leave the existing mortar bed above the lintel exposed.
I hope I have explained this in a way that makes sense, and I am attaching a couple of photos so you can visualise.
I would appreciate any advice you could offer.
Many thanks,
Sol
