Hello,

I have a hole near my window ( see attached pictures) and I’m not sure what has caused the problem and who I need contact to sort it.

Please could someone let me know who would be the best type of person to contact? Plasterer/window repair etc.

Thank you,

Andrew

A picture of the window from the outside will help us to give better advice.

Better but could do with a picture that shows the complete window and about a brick outside of the window.

From the close ups I think the window aperture is not as expected - I'd have expected a 'stepped' reveal.

Thanks

below are some pictures from outside. Who would you recommend getting out to fix the problem?

not an expert but it looks like it should have had trim covering that mastic?
Looks a cheap job or DIY?
I might be concerned that the correct sealing had been done
You van buy upvc trim to make it look better

So I think your problem is caused by the way the person who measured up for the new windows not realising or not knowing that the window reveal is not stepped so when the window was made up there was an allowance to allow it to be fitted.

So what is the solution I'd do?
From the outside all the sealer needs to be removed and cleaned up.

On the inside the sides and top needs to have a trim (moulding, architrave) installed that covers the gap by as least as much as the gap (so it's thickness is is twice the gap width) that can be glued in place (Gripfill or similar). Looks like the orange DIY barn has the sort of stuff I'm talking about, otherwise a somewhere that sells plastic fascias. e.g. https://www.cabp.co.uk/Wall-Floor-C...2M-x-55mm-x-15mm-Architrave-White_IA595WH.htm

Once that is in place and firm then on the outside squirty foam in the gap, allowed to dry, trimmed flush with the window frame and then a bead of Silicon sealer applied over the top.

You also asked who could do the work; I'd suggest a carpenter who knows how to install replacement windows or a jobbing builder - look for a 'one-man band' type of person. It's kind of job I did in recent times as pocket money to supliment my pension (with CV19 issues I've stopped doing that as younger guys need the work and money more than myself).

Suggest you "consider" removing the fill internally, or as much as you can, the mastic looks to be [several] years old, especially externally where the mastic has shrunk back? Then fill with some expanding foam? this will provide some insulation + a backing once trimmed back for external mastic or trim + Ditto internally + assist with water proofing the window / wall junction.

Internal trim will really enhance the overall appearance massively, externally, mastic should suffice on top of the trimmed foam fill.

As an aside the brick above the arch has some decent holes or missing mortar rain could get in there?

Thank you.

I think I will contact a local DIY man to come over and look at it.
