Gap underneath PVC window sill.

Ive just moved into a new place and im currently redecorating my front room.

I’ve noticed that under my window sill there’s quite a gap and it’s letting in a very slight draft.

I’d like to get this sorted but not sure if the best way to go really.

My first thought was to get some strip wood to fill the majority of the gap and then caulk around it.

I’ve thought about expanding foam too but having never used it I’m not sure if I’d just make a mess and ideally I’d like to get a nice finish on this rather than just a bubbling mass.

Forget expanding foam. You could use a general ready mixed filler, smooth over, job done. Paint if required.

Yes that will do the job fine. Apply using a filling knife or any similar tool (e.g. scraper with smooth edge) I would apply the filler to the end section of the tool then offer it up vertically to the gap, pushing the knife in to apply the filler. Then smooth as required (also removing any excess on the wall) e.g. horizontal motion running knife along top of wall where it meets the underside of the sill. Allow to dry. Paint if needed. Job done.
