Hi all,
Looking for some advice and help please.
House is a 70's build, with existing cavity wall insulation and good loft insulation etc.
80% of the garage ceiling is under an external felt roof with nothing above and 20% of the garage ceiling is directly below a bedroom (circled in red in the picture). You can see a couple of electrical wires in the picture and a electrical fuse box is also below.
I am less concerned with the 80% of the garage that has an external felt roof as the garage is used purely for storage, has no heating and there is nothing above this section. i.e. Left of the white beam in the picture.
I want to insulate and plasterboard the 20% ceiling section of the garage sitting directly below a bedroom (Said bedroom above is not really cold or anything). The main drivers being:
1) Preventing cold air reaching the bedroom from the garage.
2) Potential sound proofing.
3) Providing a potential fire resistance barrier.
Correct if I am wrong, but I believe my main three options in terms of insulation are:
A) Celotex and Kingspan boards which are good for heat loss and mould resistance?
B) Fibreglass - More likely to attract mould but more fire resistant?
C) Mineral - Better as a sound barrier?
I see mixed information on the web about fire resistance of Celotex and Kingspan, so not really sure which insulation or approach to go with?
Is there a certain specific type of fireproof plasterboard should also consider asking some one to fit?
With there being a bedroom above I am keen to select the correct insulation and approach.
Looking for some advice and help please.
