Hi,

I am looking to convert my garage into a room, will be getting building control but had a quick question regarding the foundation for the new wall for the window.

I am under the impression that a nearby house built off the existing footings, at the garage door opening it is half the garage floor and half the tarmac for the drive.

I hacked off the tarmac side and there is concrete below, I dug down the front and it seems it goes down almost 20cm, it looks like it might end there but not sure, would have to dig more. I assume it then sits on the original footing?

Not looking forward to it but I assume the 20cm has to come out to the thickness dot the existing pier?

Many thanks for your help.

Thanks would that get passed building regs? going to have to cut the concrete side to be able to fit the brick in.

Have dug down further, The first line of brick is only 1 beneath ground level, then it’s just concrete as far as I can see! The garage door opening concrete seems to stop around 20cm, so maybe we are looking at the lintel option?

Many thanks
