Hello there ,
I am looking at replacing my up and over garrage door . I am probably going to get it proffessionally done . Can anyone tell me which is the best material - steel with powder coated paint , or upvc ?
thanks .

thanks mate ! why do you say that , are they stronger , what about price difference ?

i have seen g.r.p. doors and didn't think a lot of them. had no complaints from the coated metal ones.

better the devil and all that. ;)

Cheap g.r.p doors are flimsy and will not give you value for money!!
Good quality reinorced g.r.p doors are strong and the best to look at but are expensive.
Steel plastisol coated are a happy medium specify retractable mechanism rather than canopy if your garage allows for it.

Wood has been around for a few thousand years and is tried and tested , why not try that ?

extremely heavy, by comparison. a little more unpredictable as well i'm afraid. :(

far better looking though. ;)

Thanks for the advice ! Like most lazy folk nowadays , I`m tempted by the low maintainance aspects of the coated steel , so will probably avoid a wooden door . what is g.r.p. by the way . Same as upvc ?
Also , I have had a quote from a local firm of £679 to fit a Henderson Corinthian coated steel door . price includes vat and fitting of surrounding frame . does this sound o.k.
Regards , Colin .

Not very keen on the hendersons the build/component quality is not so good, if you can get a coated cardale retractable for that price i would say it was fair.
