Garden Decking - novice guide

Hi there

Does anyone know of a good step-by-step guide to laying decking? I have almost no idea how to begin, so would be looking for a complete novice's guide.

I've done a Google and can't seem to find anything detailed enough. I am mainly interested in how to prepare the area, level the ground, set foundations etc, as I am fairly confident about building the frame itself then laying the decking.

Also, how do I tell where the Damp Proof Course starts on my house?

The project I have in mind is a very simple, square deck attaching to the house outside of my kitchen.
