Hi

I have just come accross these forums looking for some advice on installing some garden lighting.

What I want to do is connect up a series of 4 uplighters on to my fence and have these connected to a light switch in the living room. An electrican said they would take the spur of one of the double sockets into a fused spur which Im guessing would be wired up to the switch.

My Dad is kindly donating some armoured cable, not sure of the spec so I can run a cable run under the ground, however since I am not an electrcian by any means, I dont know else I need to buy to connect these lights together, I had a sparky explain that they would take a cable of the armoured cable to each of the lights, however does this mean I need a junction box for each of the lights, to take the cable off?

Any help will be appreciated. Not that it forms part of the question, but I also plan to have a security light connected up to the switch as well.

Thanks

You'd be better getting the sparky to advise, also find out what size armoured cable you have.
It may be possible to tee off the armoured in a watertight enclosure up to each light, but unless you know what you are doing better left to a pro.

Thanks.

I'll find out what cable is.

Fron the sounds of it I think it will need to be tee'd of, but these waterproof junctions looked pretty pricey.

Although to be honest I only checked out what was available on screwfix.

They aren't easy to make - water can be very determined.

Where do you need them - above or below ground? What IP rating will suffice?

thanks for the advice the tee joints, these are the sort of thing I was looking at, looking at those IP68 seems to be pretty much around the area I'd be happy with, I think the above ground ones would work as I can connect the tee connectors to the base of the fence post.
