Hi everyone,
i have installed a waterproof socket in a garden, which uses 3 core SWA cable (5m long). The nearest place i could connect it to was a utility room, where the existing main ring circuit (double socket) and main 2002 version CU are, which are not RCD protected. i am aware that this is a special location and therefor notifiable.

Please help me on what i can connect this to, in order to have it RCD protected, and what kind of material would be best for each option.
I would really appreciate your help.
Thanks

What's the make of your consumer unit?

Can you post a picture?

It may be possible to fit an RCBO in place of the MCB for the downstairs sockets.

1) Remove the socket you have installed

2) Replace it with one of these:

How about the other side (The nearest place i could connect it to was a utility room, where the existing main ring circuit (double socket) and main CU are, which are not RCD protected).
Thanks

Sorry - I thought you were asking about how to get RCD protection for your new socket.

If you want it for the entire circuit then it's RCBO or standalone RCD, or new CU time. If you want it for the entire installation it's the latter.

Can you have a look here (google images) and see if you can identify it or the MCB's installed within?

I think that's an MK Sentry consumer unit.

Here's a link to a 32A RCBO for an MK Sentry consumer unit:

Thanks for help,

Sorry - I thought you were asking about how to get RCD protection for your new socket.

He was. You suggested replacing it.
Yup.

Quickest and easiest way to get a socket with RCD protection.

After I suggested that as the way to get RCD protection for a socket, his "How about the other side..." threw me, and I wondered what he had meant, as clearly you wouldn't need anything on the other side if all you were interested in was the socket.

Ho hum.

It probably a more expensive way of doing it plus you don't get the added benefit of an RCD upgrade for the whole downstairs ring final.

I think an MK masterseal RCD protected socket is around £55-£60.
