Hi all

We have some leftover breeze blocks from some building work and, as it happens, I need to put some steps into a hill so I thought I'd use them.

The hill has a rise of around 15ft at approx 30 degrees. I figured I'd lay them on some coarse aggregate with sand on top - sound reasonable?

Thanks
Scott

Not really. At the very least you would need to lay them on mortar or they will just move around.

To do it right you.d need a small concrete footing for each step. Are you planning on finishing the top with something or will the bare blocks be the treads and risers? They are not an ideal height at only 4'' tall.

Thanks for that. Putting concrete down shouldn't be a problem.

Breeze blocks are not very a)hard wearing for foot traffic nor b)attractive. Are you thinking of paving over the top of them?

To be honest, I was just going to use them because they were there.

The only thing at the top of the hill is Junior's ganghut and the current steps (a collection of broken slabs, from the previous owner) are dangerous.

I see what you mean about paving. You think it would be a good idea to use the blocks (two abreast, on a concrete base) as a base for small slabs?
