Garden Walls/Render falling off

Hi,

previous owner had brick planters built that are rendered, however I don't think he could have sealed them before fling them as the render keeps coming off Any ideas how I can remedy this without having to dig them out and seal them out as they run the length of the garden as this would be a massive project, also they are filled with broken bricks etc.

Any ideas would be welcome

A picture would help, but my first thought is to cover the rendered surfaces with timber so that they look like they are made from wood but have the strength of masonry
