Gas cooker + gas boiler in kitchen - air requirements?

I'm currently installing a new kitchen. There is a boiler in the kitchen, and we're having a gas cooker installed. Now, regarding ventilation, the manual just says:
"If there are any other fuel burning appliances in the same room the current edition of BS 5440: Part 2: should be consulted to determine air vent requirements."

Can anyone tell me, whether I will need to install an air vent (and what size)? I'm obviously not going to do any gas work / install the cooker myself, but I'd like to know if I am going to have to install a vent! Will installing an extractor fan (with extraction, not recirculation) make any difference?

The room size is 3.5*2.5*2.4 (w*d*h), but it is joined onto two other rooms (3.5*3.5*2.4) and (1*1.7*2.2) without any doors. The boiler is 27Kw.

Now, there never was any ventilation in the room previously (with a different gas cooker and same boiler), and it's an old terrace house, so about as airtight as a shed.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean.

It's an old (probably 80s) floor standing system boiler.

It has got a big square flue going straight out the back through the wall, so balanced I guess!

I can't remember the model of it (and I'm not at home at the moment to check).

One other thing - is there any minimum distance that needs to be between the cooker and the boiler?

if its a balanced (room sealed) boiler its ok

as long as its not in a cupboard

then you might need compartment vents only to the same room tho ;)

Yes... it's in a cupboard. Oddly it was in a cupboard before, with no vents. My plan was to install a vent in the plinth at the bottom of the cupboard. There are also a couple of sizeable holes (10cm*10cm) into the airing cupboard in the next room where the pipes go through the wall.

I'll also check tonight if it is balanced flue.

Thanks for your help!

the boiler sounds as if it is balanced flue, so no external vent req'd (perhaps cupboard vents if required by MI, so give us make and model) as room volume is over 10m3 again no vent required to outside for cooker, but regs require an openable window (or equivelent)

no he hasn't and i dont need to know

my bad, iv just read that it,s a balance flue boiler.

"no he hasn't and i dont need to know" wow that's hot ;)

The boiler is an Ideal mexico super rs 55 - and it has a balanced flue. Now that I know that, and what it means, I can completely ignore the boiler in terms of air consumption. The room is also bigger than the instructions for the cooker say it needs to be (in terms of ventilation) so all is good.

And yes, there is a window to the outside world.

I'm going to fit a vent into the cupboard anyway, mainly to let some heat out into our kitchen!

Thanks for all your help.
