afternoon.
ive been doing work with the council contractors for 4 years and am leaving to go private. i havent come across to many fires with the councils routine firegems radiant fires which are easy to cap off via restrictor.
however i suspect in the private sector ill come across many fires which will need capping off. i carry as a norm the usual male/ female 1/4, 1/2/ and 3/4 inch plugs. are there any other plugs /tools which will come in handy for such eventualites. i always like to be prepared rather then ar==ing about to the merchants !
thanks

further to my thread. i did a baxi bbu for the council. fire was fine but tenant wanted fire disconnected. i found that standard female plug didnt go on!!!!just isolated via the control tap but it situations like that in private sector i want to be prepared. asked my boss about correct plug but as usual no one gets back to you.!! glad im leaving

What are you doing touchng a gas fire if you don't know the basics about capping off appliances.Isolating via the control tap alone without capping or plugging off is illegal.Take some advice and get some more training.

Why would it be illegal to turn the gas knob to off on a perfectly good fire?
I do it all the time on servicing.
So if you went to a customers house where they had an inset gas that was all fine and dandy yet they just did not want to be able turn it on any more you would take out the full fire cap and then put back in place or would you use the isolation valve?

Mickeyg
you read the post
he uses the words customer wanted fire DISCONNECTED he has isolated at tap but has n ot made it clear whether he has ACTUALLY removed the appliance

And can you tell me what a standard FEMALE PLUG looks like.... Post looks like a potential windup

customers don't always get what they want.
Doesn't look like a wind up to me. Just a newbie unsure of what lumps of iron to carry around with him.

Well heaven help his customers if he cant even think for himself what caps and plugs to use in a domestic situation
