gas hob installation

[Help_me!!!]

Is it true that you can no longer hook a hob to a gas mains via a
bayonet fitting does it have to be plumbed directly into the mains
gas. I was told that the only thing that could be connected to a bayonet
fitting was a free standing cooker, I have a friend that is going to install my built in hob he hasn't told me this put I was talking to a guy who wastoldld by a british gas engineer that a bayonet fitting to a built in hob was now illegal is this true???

No its not correct, tumble driers, barbeques and some hobs can be fitted by hoses, but in the case of hobs it depends if the instructions say it is permitted and if the location allows it. It never used to be permitted but increasingly now it is.

Any gas appliance should only be installed by a Registered Gas Installer or, only if not being done by way of trade, by a "competent" person.

In this instance a competent person would be someone who knows the regulations governing such matters. If your friend does not know this, he is not competent and should not be installing the hob.

thank you both for your replies my friend fits gas for a living but i've not
had chance to ask him but he said that was the standard way of doing it,
it was just with the british gas bloke saying that i thought it was a new
regulation. I'm sure my friend will tell me the same but two or three heads
are better than one at least i'm now reasured

DO read the instructions carefully. I fitted one today, same as usual.
But one last week, a hotpoint from B&Q, had to have a powered extractor to outside, a dirty great vent hole in the wall (100sqcm ), and the kitchen had to be big enough!
