Gas PTFE tape vs.water PTFE tape

Baxipot next time you take your ACS and they say tape up a thread pick up the normal PTFE and see if you fail the core. You will
Have a look on the tape manufacturers web sites and BG used to have a scientific testing facility and we would get tech bulletins out from them and that is one of them.

ONETAP .
The guy who said explode would have been have been referring to what could happen indirectly. When you have worked on the gas emergency side and been to as many leaks on joints on normal PTFE that have loosened off as the tape within deteriorated and left serious leaks perhaps you would not find his comments so funny

the screwfix ptfe is to BS 7786 (unsintered ) and bs 5292 (use for water, steam and 1st,2nd,3rd family gases)

As far as i am aware all ptfe produced and sold in the UK is to the above bs standards and therefore can be used on both.

The simple answer is just accept what the manufacturers of PTFE state.

If its meant for gas then so be it and visa versa.

It aint nowt to do with if you're a plumber or RGI with an oppinion its "what it says on the tin" that matters.

Short of conducting all sorts of agile investigations and experiments we may never know the answer. Jesus, I wish I knew.

Whatever any of you seem to think, if you are CORGI registered you would know that the only PTFE that that you can use is the thick one!

Its nothing to do with what the makers say, its what the gas regulations say.

Agile be careful softas loves to give abuse and try and put people down but the minute someone proves him wrong or questions his sexuality .
He is off running to the mods to get post locked and altered.
I don`t see eye to with Agile but at least he doesn`t go running .
Can just see softas as a youngster in the play ground, If i cant be Brazil i am taking my ball home and nobody can play with it

No; he said the PTFE would explode. He was an idiot.

The makers have to abide by the regulations. CORGI do not manufacture PTFE they will just say if the stuff is good for gas or not. If it has been tested and passed for gas usage then thats the end of it.

Forget ptfe, use loctite 55, suitable for gas and water according to manufacturers.

questions his sexuality .

I never question anyone's sexuality!

Not even the customer whose email was "posh red lipstick"@ hotmail !

I have quite a lot of gay and lesi customers. Some of the gay ones are a little agressive and so are some of the lesi ones but its odd but lesi women seem much more relaxed with men.

The ones I prefer are the African ones because I have to greet then African style!

perhaps we should turn this topic into what silicone grease is best.. what do you recommend softas

There must be a standard text book answer
There are standards.

Yes, there are. I have just quoted from one.

I don't have the British Standards listed on the Screwfix PTFE.
How's about EN331:1998, and BS 746:2005, and BS 1552:1995?

I just quoted from one, I just said I didn't have the others.
Do try to read what other people write occasionally.

Which raises a different question, why is the thin stuff sold for plumbing?
Because it's incredibly useful, and because gas PTFE is often too thick.
But it shouldn't be used on coarse threads.
I don't see why not..

Because the standard I quoted said you should use the G stuff. There are standards.
