Gas Safe and NICEIC registered - Earning in London area?

Hey everyone.

I found this forum a few years ago but never joined. Now I need help and advice so hoping you guys can help. Especially those based in London.

I have just moved to London from Scotland. I am a trained gas and electrical engineer and used to work for a company carrying out safety checks. No remedial work at all as it was given to other guys, I just used to do paperwork. Clean and easy. Unfortunately the company went out of business haha, not my fault but anyway, that coincided with me having to move to London for personal reasons.

My question is who are the bigger testing and safety companies here in London? I am sure there must be loads because London has lots of rented properties.

Anyone have experience for working for any electrical and gas company? I'm getting on a bit now and want a nice easy job that pays decent London money. I live in Enfield now by the way, just outside London but easy to get into. I have own van and tools and I am registered in my own right.

There is definitely a demand for gas and NICEIC combined tradesmen here in London.

There is always work in london,just find a company you are happy with.

British gas are going into smart (?) meters gas and electric and they will need fitters,try to be a mentor/quality control or something like that.

Dont forget to pick up private work as well.

Some gas/electric training companies sometimes need additional staff during their busy times/evenings weekends ,so when your bones are ready for something more easy you can get into training.

alright lads!

pay is pretty much the same as I was making up north but I think these jobs will be closer to each other - probably get lots more traffic and parking problems though by what I saw today.

Went out with someone today to see what the job was like.

8 gas checks, 2 boiler services, 2 PIR's, 3 EPC's and 1 PAT test

Engineer = £416 7.30am start and 9pm home ouch.

F@@k me I was tired watching the guy. We can choose how many jobs we do so... erm I think I will do a little less..

Anyway, I will settle in and let you all know whats happening.

i would have made about a grand doing all that...

i do wonder though how they can cram it all in, I certainly wouldn't manage all that in one day, but then again i do get bored and lose focus easily.

That caught my attention. So do you mean that as well as being gas and NICEIC registered, you are also a domestic or commercial energy assesor? That's some string of qualifications.

Purely out of curiosity, how long did you spend doing each EPC?

Domestic Energy Assessor only. I can also carry out air conditioning reports although have never done one.
