Guys,
I'm planning to build a japanese garden and want as the main feature, an open gazebo/pagoda.

There will be no walls, but four 6x6 posts supporting a shallow pyramid style roof.

Obviously, a person would need to be able to walk under the eaves but there would be a deck which extends under the pagoda which is raised about 6" off the ground - so you have to step up into it.

So I guess that means 6" for the deck, plus 6'6" to the eaves, then another 18-24" for the roof structure gives me around 9ft in total. My neighbours garden is a little higher than mine so relative to their garden it might be six inches or so lower, and they have their garage between my garden and their house.

My garden slopes downwards slightly, away from my neighbours, but the gazebo would be around 6ft from my neighbours fence at its closest corner, and about 15-20ft from the street boundary. (its at the side of my house, which is in a corner plot.

Do I need planning permission for this open structure. Does it make a difference to council planning requirements if it has a timber, felt or slate roof.

best regards,
Guy

Not normally a problem depending on the area, your best bet is to pop down to your BCO for their free easy to read planning guide book for what you can or can't do before planning permission.

GCarnegi don't think I can be of any help but wanted to ask what software you used to create your garden plan - thinking of doing something similar!
