At my first go at dot and dab unto block/brick would i be able to get a level enough surface for tiling? The wall is very small at 1.6m x 2.4m so will only have one joint but i am using large tiles and want a dead level joint.

Would i be better off using smaller sheets for easier handling or leave the join ever so slightly concave and fill with finish??

Any tips or advice most welcome.

big strait edge... try and get them level. If you try and componsate. you may componsate too much.

Put your level on the wall check what it is like for "Plumb", if you are lucky enough for it to be "quite good" then dot the wall with equal sized dabs about 6 to 8 inchs apart. Put some strips of plaster-board along the floor and rest your board on it and gently push it to the wall, check for plumb again and adjust with a piece of 4x2 about 6 inchs short of the wall, by that I mean gently tap the board with the 4x2 and move the wood along checking level every tap.If you go past plumb tap the opposite end (Top or Bottom) to bring it back make sure you have tapped it enough to spread the dabs out under the board...If the wall is well out of plumb you have to put bigger dabs on and do the same as above.Sometimes we put a 2x1 batten nailed along the floor with the inside edge finished where the outside of the plaster-board is going to be plumb and rest the board on it and plumb it up with the 4x2 and when its plumb the board will fall down in front of the batten and rest against it. I know it sounds a bit complicated but with the small area you have to do I can't see you having any problems...Good luck. ;)
