So, about a week ago I knocked down an old shed from the previous owners. It used to have a terrible rat problem, and was full of rat droppings. I cleared the shed out, rat poop and the rest ( rat skeletons as well, so I know they're long gone - plus I haven't seen any since I moved in) I then hosed the rest of the mess away to clear the ground. It's been a week and when I get down to ground level to prepare the dirt for grass, there is an awful animal waste smell. I can't see any rat waste or any other animal waste but it still reeks after a week of being cleared up.
I've tried hosing it over again but the smell still lingers and leaving it open to the air hasn't helped. I've just gone out and put some fresh top soil over it to try and mask the smell, as a last ditch effort.
Will the smell go away eventually, or is there something else I can do to remove the odour? I was going to put some plants in to mask the smell, but that doesn't feel ideal.
