Hi,

I am tiling my bathroom, which is currently untiled. There is an existing electric shower on an inside wall that I want to keep. Currently, there is a chrome pipe which delivers the water to it which is on the outside of the wall, however, I want to put the pipe in the wall (behind the new tiles).

I was going to chase the wall out.

My question is, which pipe would you recommend (can I use the plastic push fit?), and do I need to lag the pipe or anything?

Also what would you recommend filling the cavity with the pipe in with?

Many thanks for your help,
regards

Hi

Doesn't really matter which pipe you use although personally I would use copper. You can still use speed-fit fittings in the loft and connect your copper pipe to plastic pipe if you need to (use pipe inserts when connecting to plastic pipes).
Bear in mind that the fitting connecting to the electric shower normally requires a compression fitting.

Normally I would just lightly cover the pipe with a plastic bag or whatever is available and then fill with plaster or sand & cement or even tile adhesive.

Better idea would be to chase some trunking into the wall and stick the pipe in there. Then there is room for expansion and contraction and if worst comes to worst you can pull the pipe out from the loft at a later date.

Easy to render over too.
