hello pal i live on the wirral, but every gas (fitter) not engineer! i know would not touch a trainee. why should they?? whats in it for them??

british gas charge £16000.00 to train anyone above 18. if ya got £16000.00 ring bg.

nothing personal but you would be very very lucky to find someone to take you on..

good luck tho ;)

Your probably right. 3 yrs part time at college is ok for the basic technical knowledge but it can never give you the experience you gain whilst working alongside an experienced person. I'm hoping free labour may entice someone eventually.

I wish you well but.............would I take someone on that could see my contacts and customers ? why on earth would I risk someone stealing my work ?

I am helping two people to train ones a lad ones a lass but I know they couldnt steal my customers ....anyone else why would I.

Your best chance may be to contact established buisnesses rather than self employed gas fitters you'd be hard pushed to pinch their buisness so you might stand a better chance of getttig in !

mmmm Gasbanni is right,
i was in the same postion a few years ago but wrote/e mailed everyone on the Corgi (as it was) list, had a few replies, mostly they didn't bother. Then i went to an event that Corgi organised and they put me in touch with a guy (sole trader) who was willing to train me. He now gets work from us (and not juts crap lol) Try the local Gas Safe assessors, they normally know the guys who are willing to train guys, but godd luck :D

Good luck mate but I came out of college as a electrician and joiner but im working with concrete at the moment. Im earning some good cash too :D

done precast concrete site work and done wagon driving for 20 yrs on nights, working 15 hr nights , i want 8-5 for a decent wage , thats my goal in life

It ain't going to be easy, and will require persistance, and some bit of lateral thinking.

Contacting small heating & plumbing firms may help. What about contacting others you went to college with, or did your acs with? Were any of them self employed? What about your mates in other trades?

Perhaps even if you were to get a boiler/heating job you could call one of them and do a deal. Your not putting them under pressure and your getting the experience.

Keep at it and don't give up. Good luck :)

Until someone was quite experienced, like after two years, I would expect it would be difficult to earn as much as a night shift HGV driver.

You and millions of others - Good Luck , Emigrate ;)

you'd be welcome to come out with me for a day a week if you lived down here. I'm sure you'll find something.

Thankyou mickey, Agile your quite right about the pay for night hgv work it isnt that bad in comparison to some other jobs up here its around 31000 but once youve covered every town and city it dosent offer any challenges for the grey matter .Theres also no job satisfaction whatsoever , still its kept a roof over me head , thanks for all replies

A recent advert for a gas engineer with five years experience had a salary of £18,000.

If you want more brain stimulation try voluntary work like helping mentaly retarded adults or people who have had a stroke!

That's a little harsh? The lads trying to get experience for one day? He's asking for a DAYS experience, for free?

Although, on the dole, you must work, with mentally retarded people, or people that have had a stroke, to receive benefit. To prevent your home being repossesed.

agile i do like the word retarded it very insulting
as lots people with diffrent learning disablity get dumped with that one
by joe public and i would expect better from some one as mentaly agile as your self :!:
