Gents,
At the beginning of the year I had all the rads off and renewed all the valves. Each rad got flushed through with a hose except for the big ones which I couldn't lift on my own. The system is quite well sludged (the water was black). I've got the classic symptom of a cycling boiler when up to heat due to restricted flow. Anyway, I have a pot of Fernox Restorer which I was going to bung in for a while (followed by inhibitor). The things I am worried about are :
1) What are the chances of killing the hot water coil in the cylinder and getting leaks into the domestic hot water? Is it best to run just the heating side of the system while the restorer is in to stop this happening?
2) What are the chances of causing leaks in the boiler heat exchanger?
3) What are the chances of dislodged debris blocking valves/heat exchanger?
I've heard a few stories of these chemicals causing more headaches than they solve. So.... shall I do it or not?
