Country
United Kingdom
On the evening before he was due to announce the part-nationalisation of UK banks, he looked ravaged. He closed his office door, sat on the couch and said in almost a whisper: ‘We’ve just got to get ourselves ready in case it goes wrong tomorrow. And I mean really wrong.

‘Even if there’s a panic in another country, people will see it on the TVs, and they’ll start panicking here. It’s got to be given a chance to work.’

I said: ‘But people will give it a chance . . .’

‘You don’t understand,’ he said sternly. ‘If the banks are shutting their doors, and the cashpoints aren’t working, and people go to Tesco and their cards aren’t being accepted, the whole thing will just explode.

‘If you can’t buy food or petrol or medicine for your kids, people will just start breaking the windows and helping themselves. And as soon as people see that on TV, that’s the end, because everyone will think that’s OK now, that’s just what we all have to do. It’ll be anarchy. That’s what could happen tomorrow. I’m serious, I’m serious . . . We’d have to think: do we have curfews, do we put the Army on the streets, how do we get order back?
I looked at Cameron and Osborne collapsing in mocking laughter. And I just thought: ‘You pygmies. You have no idea'

‘I’d have to resign — but I couldn’t go if there was just carnage out there: someone would have to be in charge.’

this is why its unfair to blame labour for all the problems the banking collapse sucked every last penny out the system
yes labour did things wrong like being in the bankers pockets and not saving for a rainy day

why would anyone go and break shop windows to loot food and clothes, would it not be much better to break into banks and loot millions of pounds and we could all be rich then.

the banking system has collapsed
nothing is moving your wages are in syberspace you have no money no credit cheques are useless
you are owed £3000 and have 10k in a bank but the system has collapsed
your fridge and freezer are empty you are starving
do you go for worthless paper or food to feed yourself ??

It was all Gordon Brown's fault. He stopped the regulators from regulating. He allowed people to borrow 6 times their salary - so the housing boom started.
If he had kept it at 2,5 times salary - then house prices would be half what they are today.

He started the housing boom by robbing peoples pensions as soon as he got in. That government from Blair to Brown start to finish were the worst in history

And the current crop are expecting to form the next government. And the electorate, like the fools they are, will let them in again to complete their destruction of the country.

The Labour party has, time and again, shown itself to be incapable of running the country.

Yes but they give away a lot of freebies and the voters love a party. Let the good times roll.

Since leaving school my three main jobs have been aircraft mech. builder and truck driver, I don't claim to be the best bricky under the sun, far from it but I can see when something is going wrong.

Whereas!!

Gorden Brown was hailed as the best Chancellor of the Exchequer since sliced bread, how did he not see the hedge fund fiasco coming?! This was his job! What he had trained for years to achieve FFS!

anyone with half a brain could see a fall was coming
but all parties just want more off the same storing problems for the future when they are out off power
all parties are the same to some extent or other

Well that exonerates Gordon Brown then does it?

I think you'll find that the housing problems go all the way back to Thatcher!...

Bliar and co just inherited the problem and carried on with it...

And guess what - after the crash, the current bunch of t*ssers are doing it all over again!

Come the General Election, you'll all see what short memories the electorate have. My father tells me in the early 60's, Labour got in under Harold Wilson. Soon after, the government, announced a wages freeze, but also announced an increase in welfare benefits.

Any leader that comes bearing gifts rather than austerity will be elected. The electorate are stupid.
