Hi All,
The sealant around the glass where it meets the timber frame is all wriggled up and peeling away from our windows. I would like to replace it and paint the windows. See attached photos.
Just not sure what exactly I should use to seal. Do I just use a putty or some kind of silicone?
New to DIY and any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Kris

That looks like a gasket seal which would require removal of the glazing unit and replacing with the correct gasket.

A job for a professional or a knowledgeable competent diyer.

Blup

May be a naive question: Is it bad to just replace it with Linseed oil putty, let it dry and paint it?

You could scrape it back and use dark brown low modulus silicone.

What you are wanting to do is only cosmetic.

Is it foam thats broken down?

Not sure what it is, foam/gasket/putty. It feels like putty to touch.

Yeah, its just for cosmetic purposes and I guess having the seals replaced for all windows by removing the glazing unit would cost a fortune.
