Hi,
I have just moved into a (rented)flat, it has the Glow Worm economy plus boiler installed. The only problem i have with it that it heats up a whole tank of water which i don't use ever (i use the electric shower) Is their a way of switching the water heating off?
On the timer control . there is NO option for heating only .... but there is an option for water only. Any sugestions?.
Regards

has it got a mechanical thermostat near the cylinder? turn it to 0 and it should stop all water heating.

do you not do dishes?

What kind of system is it? on a y plan you should be able to have htg only but if you have a 2 port valve on htg side (c plan i think) then you will have no control over water when htg is on

You're stuffed.
You COULD close the valve to the cylinder, which looks like it's been leaking for years, but it would probably leak even more. You'd also have to make sure the bypass (valve on Z shaped pipe below and left of pump) is open a turn or two.

Turn the boiler down (knob on left behind flap) and the water won't get as hot.

For safety reasons to prevent legionella the cylinder should be heated to to 55 degrees plus once a week !!!

Or just run the hot tap, though cold water would come out, to change the water in the cylinder.
