Hi all,

Recently moved in to a property with a Glow worm energy 7 30c (approx 2 years old).

Have turned the heating on a couple of days ago to test it. I noticed the CH temp on the boiler would reach 79c. Firstly can anyone confirm this too high? Am I right in thinking it should be set at more like 60c?

I tried to adjust the temp using the + and - buttons on the boiler but the display just showed the words ‘no’. I tried doing this with just the heating symbol displayed on the boiler. I also tried to adjust the hot water temp and again it wouldn’t let me - displayed no.

I’ve gone in to the installers menu on the climapro 2 remote after searching on the internet and the modulation setting was already set to off.

I am temporarily minus 2x radiators in the CH system while I do work to the property - these will soon be replaced with 2x new radiators, moved to different walls. Is this likely to be any thing to do with the temperature being high, if it is too high that is?

Any advice much appreciated.

DHW needs to be over 60ºC to prevent legionnaires, the hotter the radiator the more heat it can put into the room, and the cooler the boilers flue gases the more latent heat can be gleamed from it. My boiler does have a temperature control, but found if I set it low, I get a long recovery time, so have to turn the boiler on earlier to get room to temp on a given time, so what is gained on swings, is lost on the roundabouts, so turning the boiler temp down does not in the long run help.

Ok I see. The hot water temp is fine, it’s just the heating temp I would like to turn down a bit if poss. The rads get really hot, too hot I would say.

Turn the modulation setting on the climapro2 to 'on'

This will allow high flow temps for heat up, but once room temperature gets near what its aiming for the boiler will automatically back off on the flow temperature till it matches exactly what's needed. This gets your boiler condensing more, saving fuel & money, and makes for a more comfortable home rather than roasting hot radiators when most of the year they would never need to be near that temperature.

Ok, I turned the modulation setting on last night. I'm sure this is coincidental but this morning I woke up to banging coming from the towel rail in the bathroom, which woke my step son up in his room adjacent. I twisted one of the the valves on the rad anti-clockwise and it stopped. I've just bled the system and no air came out. What is this likely to be?

Was it a TRV you turned?

If a TRV is fitted in the wrong direction they can start banging when just on the biting point of closing, when systems running, if you open and close the valve quickly you normaly hear a single thud if there is an issue with it.

The banging is often quite loud, the sound of a jackhammer digging up a street sort of noise.

And to make it more fun, its not always the one the sound is coming from, it can be one elsewhere on a system and the sudden pressure fluctuations make a noise in other parts of the system.
