Hi guys.. This is somewhat of a long shot, but I have a need to divert the flue for my boiler, a Gloworm Ultimate 50FF an old style balanced flue type about 7yrs old, seems flue parts are no longer available :( , so I wonder has any one got the following.. 2no 90deg 60/100 bends and a 500mm 60/100 straight length to suit or maybe you know of a supplier who may have some old stock ?

Failing that I will have to change to a new condensing boiler, what with adaptions it will be a costly option

Thanks... RonS (Worthing, West Sussex)

The inner flue on your boiler is probably rotting away nicely by now, so be careful.

you cant alter the flue in the way your describing , you should get a pro in to look at what your options are,

Recently got a complete flue from DHS (direct heating spares), not sure if you will have to go through PTS as I did. But must be fitted by a RGI.

And are you sure the boiler is only seven years old? I thought they stopped making these many years ago.

Ult FF could be that young in all fairness however flues are obsolete, try cumbria heating, GD heating or APK (google them).

Thanks for the replies, I've fired off an enquiry to DHS.. here's hoping :D, if not I'll follow up on the others suggested

I understand that they finished production in 2004, so probably one of the last

I've had this looked at by a very trustworthy company, well they were establish in 1725 and that's not twenty five past five ;), although they did throw me by moving as I went to their old shop and they had moved... and only been there for just over 100 years

Cheers... RonS

Boiler manufacturers normally make spares for 10 years after productiion stops - unless they go bust of course. GW are still here and growing.

A strong letter of complaint to their head office in Derby may be in order. They have been known to remanufacture parts in the past, and may just conjure up what you need if press, Watchdog, and Which are mentioned.

Hope this isn't needed, but a 7 year old boiler from a major UK manufacturer having obsolete parts is ridiculous.

well its not as simple as that ! Its actually 10yrs on "functional" components, the flue isn't even classed as part of the boiler, so they can effectively stop production when the last ones roll of the line, manufacturers tend to interpret this directive however they want ! Also they can stop supply of ANY part of a boiler if they can prove there is no demand for it, which could easily be the case for flues, cases etc.. I have no doubt if you look hard enough, someone will have what is required, but it may take a bit of time, phoning, emailing and no doubt not very cheap.
If the boiler is less than 10yrs old it will be indicated by the first 2 digits of the S/N as glowworm started using date indicative S/N's from 2001. If the S?N starts 00 then its pre 2001.
You will find the data badge if you pull the bottom control panel forward and look on the inside bottom right hand side.

A useful tack, I may well take that road, thanks

I had contacted their technical department and thought they were quite helpful, saying that although all internal parts are still made, he couldn't recall ever being asked for flue parts as generally once installed they were rarely moved or needing replacement, I suppose that if it wasn't for the advent of the condensing boiler these metal flues would still be around

I've just checked it and it starts with 04, well that's cleared that up then :D, and your other comment pretty much sum up my call to them (see my last post)

Cheers for that... RonS

A bit of luck at last, someone kindly sent me Gloworm's flue options list for my boiler, see below, so some part numbers to work with at last

Spirits raised a search on Google revealed a number of pages referring to a part number, my euphoria was soon dashed as one after the other led to ‘dead’ pages from 4 or 5 years ago... Ho hum.. :(

So where do you come in you ask, well for those of you looking for a challenge I’m willing to offer a prize to anyone who can locate the parts listed below... now I did think of offering to have your children but sadly I’m way past childbearing age, so how about a cash prize, works for most, of say £100 plus of course my eternal thanks (probably worth nothing) and as a extra special bonus you can come round and fit it too, am I generous or what :D

All competitions must have rules, so here are mine..

No purchase necessary
The judge's (that's me) decision is final
First post (by date & time) that leads to a successful purchase, of all the parts listed below, is the winner
Closing date is 15/07/11, as I'm on a deadline when plan B will need to come into operation
Entrant's must be residents of planet Earth
The last rule.. there is no need for any last rule

So parts required for a Glow-worm Ultimate 50FF are..

2no. 438130 bend kits

2no. 2000448490 1m extension kits (or 1no 2000448491 2m extension kit, or 1no 2000448485 3m extension kit)

1no. 2000208600 weather collar for a tiled picthed roof

May I finish for now, with my quote of the day... yes I hear you say, well OK then 'I am not young enough to know everything' (Oscar Wilde)

Happy hunting... RonS
