hello all,

i have the above mentioned boiler which has started to play up. traditional y plan system, pump etc all ok. when she fires up, she gets a bit noisy like a boiling kettle, no banging or bubbling, rads get extremely hot then she turns off for a few minutes and starts all over again?

any ideas this wintry night?

Kettling can be cause by a scaled up heat exchanger. Those noises usually make me think: pump. But that's definately ok right? So, maybe the heat exchanger is scaled up. If its getting too hot it means it's not shifting the water away from the boiler quick enough: pump. Not enough water is flowing through the heat exchanger, thus getting too hot: scale Or maybe a faulty thermistor, not allowing the boiler to cease from running for a short while to avoid getting too hot. But then, that usually trips over-heat stat. So i'd go for the afore mentioned two.

the pump seems fine, it ramps up and down on the speed settings ok, i shall try adding a de-scaler solution. i have been onto Glowworms website to try and find a manual to no avail and there does not seem to be a free download site anywhere on the net.
i have heating and hot water but just have that nagging little thing in the back of my mind that come christmas day it'll be hats and gloves around the Christmas dinner table.

thanks for your swift reply.

hmmmm... i don't have much regard for these descaler solutions. I'm not sure it's worth the tenner or whatever it'll cost. I'm not sure of your ability, but i'd take it off and give it a good scrub and perhaps soak it for a few in a descaler neat. Obviously, after xmas - don't want to tempt fate :)
