Supposing you are making something like a picture frame and want to glue the mitres - what do you find the best method to be? How do you clamp the blighters?

Depending how many frame you want to do, I got one of these made by Draper about £6, does hexagon shape as well.

Something called Mitre Fast. There are 2 tubes in the pack - a small tube which is like superglue which you apply to one surface, and an aerosol can which you spray to the other surface to activate the glue apparently. And yes it sticks damn fast!!!

Yes I've tried the Mitre fast stuff but you have to get it right first time. I was thinking more of the 'adjustable until you are happy' type of thing. I'll give those blocks a go.

If you want to use mitre -fast,make a jig out of mdf with a internal 90 degree angle and just slide them together ,not the best of glues for picture frames though

What worked well for me.. was this. It was my first pop at making anything like a frame etc.. was doing a mirror. As much as i tried to get all the cuts right [using a wooden mitre box and handsaw] a half mil looks a lot in an unfinished frame eh. i was doing a mirror and all laid out it looked as though a bit of persuasion would be helpful to get everything closed up nicely.

Sooo i aleady had a couple of normal woodworking type clamps and blocks of offcuts.. for each corner i clamped the blocks across the join so a flat block was on the front and back of the join forcing it to become flush... then tapped it around till i was happy and put a screw in from the edge. Didnt use any glue.. large wall fixed mirror i was making so none of the screwed in edges would have been visible anyway. Strong as fook and all looks good now!

I've got plenty of clamps and stuff but I usually find that in wrestling with the mitre, the weight of the clamps makes the whole lot end in a heap on the floor with much colourful language. I guess if you screwed each one sperately it could work OK.

Oh and Splinter, the template idea seems a gud un.

I guess the clamps i have are really pretty small.. the mitre jog/mate as u say is also a great idea
