Hiya folks

I was going to order some CCTV and a standalone networked DVR. This week.
In fact I was going to order the cameras last night when I got back from Shopping but, As I pulled into my drive I saw the front door wide open. Yep Burgled(scumbags)

Were we an easy target Yes

We left our house at about 5pm (still light) leaving the blinds open and no lights on. Then went to see parents for Dinner arrived home at About 7:45pm

With no lights on and the blinds up it was pretty obvious no-one was home.

Weird thing is they only took my other half's Laptop leaving my satnav and her purse on the table in plain site.

So as there is now a possibilty of a return trip we are after beefing up security now. So am after a little advise.

Are these Cameras worth buying.

I only need 2-3 Cameras(but may buy more in the future See ALARM bit) So will buy the expensive ones if need be.

Next would be the DVR I'd need it to be network able. and stream over the internet. (the DVR is my sticking Point)

Finally the Alarm I've pretty much ruled out wireless.
Any recommendations Is is worth getting a monitored ADT or like Or getting a pay once.

Can I hook up some internal CCTV that only triggers to record when alarm trips(not like the movie SLIVER)

Cheers in advance Guys.
My Heads up my a*se at the moment been one of those weeks

CCTV won't stop you getting burgled.
More a deterrent factor.

I'm surprised your looking on ebay for cheap tat yet then suggest paying through the nose to get ADT to fit an alarm. May we ask why?

Nothing wrong with Wireless intruder provided you get the right kit. And ignore what a certain doomsayer will tell you.

what ever cctv you get, when it records depends on the DVR, and what its set to do.

I would let tit record either 24/7 or motion activated (if the DVR can do this) dont rely on the alarm stating the DVR.

say you have a camera out the front, you could record anyone that comes onto your property, you couln't if you were waiting for the alarm to activate the DVR to record them

Thanks Breezer

I was kinda hoping i could have the exterior recording all the time and then maybe some PIR cameras switched on when alarm sounds.
But it would prob be a case of running two systems.

youtekkinthepish

I didnt suggest getting an ADT alarm I asked was it worth it. So I assume form your Jaded reply its a NO.

As for the cameras on ebay @£79 I wouldnt say they where cheap TAT

They may be Overpriced but hey thats why I asking for advice

Can you suggest any others?

jut for your information: technology on most DVR's means no PIR required.
they sense moiton by watching the picture for changes.

Mine do that, but they cant record 24/7 and motion at the same time (think about it) so i leave mine on motion detect

Make sure that you fit the DVR somewhere where it cannot be found or stolen from. There is not much point in having it if it also is stuck in the lounge etc. ;)

I was originally going to get a card for my PC and then get it to email any still pics to my offsite email server.
But thought thats waaay too much hassle so the dvr will be screwed Down In a place they wouldnt/cant look.

I'm just struggling to find a dvr that I can get any info on recording quality
I think the more expensive of those cameras I have linked to Are for the win.

Anyone have any thoughts on the linked alarm system

no point in linking alarm to DVR, see above

Don't use motion detection on externals, too many problems - wind, animals etc. Leave it on 24/7.

Regarding which DVR, Samsung, Navigator, or for VFM, Videcon.

I have bought similar cameras off ebay and I have found them excellent.

Get an alarm installed first

Contact your local Police crime prevention officer he/she will provide an

approved installer list of your area.

I would suggest an SSAIB company

If you go for a monitored system forget diggi communicators and even standard Redcare

Both are vunarable to phone line cuts and this would not bring the Police

Duel signaling such as Redcare GSM will guarantee Police attendance

You of course as the user must be careful not to cause false alarms that

would waste Police time and know the procedure to abort response should you make a mistake

Ensure that the alarm receiving center being used has a direct number

for this purpose it is amazing how many put you in a que and by the time

they answer the boys and girls in blue are at the door

More than a couple of these would result in withdrawal of response

Also take into account will you have minors using the system

What type of property are you in ? An anti vandal high spec dome camera with IR should be a consideration as well http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SONY-CCD-480-...photoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262
bacause they can be fitted lower down to enable a good identification of any one coming on to your property.I have also looked at this site and am seriously considering the following as it gives approximately a 72 degrees viewing angle with its 3.5 lens.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SONY-1-3-CCD-...photoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262
..remember the higher the lens the narrower your field of vision.Cabling is also a consideration.Keep them up high and away from wheely bins which provide a nice platform to stand on.Any cable joints i would be inclined to put inside a box so that they cant be easily pulled out.
DVR's can easily be connected and this one provides 4 camera connections for a very reasonable price

As regards to the positioning of the DVR i have underfloor access and am looking at putting it there so if the house is broken in to and they get past the dog.(maybe you should get a bullmastiff and problem solved) then the DVR hard drive doesn't get nicked as well. You could also try sticking a small covert outdoor camera in an evergreen tree like a conifer.

Wow Cheers guys

Lots to go on.

Cabot

underfloor is where i was thinking as well.

I live in a 2 storey semi, with off the road parking, large'ish garden to the rear.

I have a boundry wall street side in my front garden that i was considering putting an anti vandal camera facing the house then I'm more likelyto get a face picture as they are coming or going.
