I'm somewhat baffled by the grant flue system - if you fix the section through the wall and finish wall internally there seems no way of getting boiler into position and fitting the boiler end bit!

What am I missing here?

Hi we are Grant registered installer's and until you get to know them the flue systems can be impenetrable!
Which flue system are you using there are a number.
Clear pictures would be useful
If your using standard low level that's yellow system

I believe it is the yellow system - it's a second-hand boiler I got off a mate who has installed a heat pump.....

You can't fit flue first make good and then fit boiler
Core hole in correct place then either fit flue to boiler and push lot in.
Or put flue in cored hole push boiler in connect flue it's tight but it will rotate enough to get in right place .
Don't forget aluminium spacer on 8mm fixing bolt.

Thanks... Yes, that's become apparent! Not good design.... I guess on alot of installations it wouldn't matter, but on mine it really does... It's a solid stone wall, then a cavity with internal insulated stud wall. I'd planned to put boiler in position, set pipework and flue, then remove boiler to finish wall before reinstating boiler....

This boiler (Grant vortex pro) is about 5 years old... Are the flues the same on new ones?

To be fair to Grant the flue design gives us zero problems but we do fit 2/3 a week.
With that thickness wall you will certainly need a flue extention what you have is current flue.
The extentions are fixed lengths the only telescopic section is the one fixed to boiler so bear that in mind.
You could do that you want by using the high level vertical flue (white system) but it's totally different from what you have and no parts are compatible.
