Hi, medically retired plumber here , I’m not an heating engineer but experienced wet plumber of 32 years .

We have 2016 Grant Vortex Pro External oil boiler.

Moved in October 2022 and became apparent we had problems with rainwater around properly during October - March .

Boiler was located on concrete pad on low lying ground and everytime rained the boiler was sitting in 3 inch of water.

We’ve since built a higher concrete pad (eventually become a boiler room) and now want to get the boiler up and plumbed back in.

A friend had said the boiler needs side panels to have an access of 600mm ? Which would be ok for the left panel (imagine looking @ boiler from the front lockable panel)

But we wanted the right hand side snug against the house so the pipework wasn’t out in the open , if that makes sense?

Is there any reason the right hand panel could t be as close as possible to the house wall? The other 3 sides would be non restricted.

Wanted to be informed before I have differing opinions from heating engineers coming to quote to re-commission .

Thanks in advance guys .

Grant registered engineer here.
Absolutely no need for any clearance on side panels. Indeed they can be fixed with side tight to wall.
Clearance required at front for burner and rear for condensate trap.

Thanks exedon, really appreciate your reply.
I can get on and do the wet side of the plumbing ready for engineer.

Cheers.

Hi Exedon , quick question for you .

I’ve just noticed the fire valve sensor on my vortex pro is in a clip above expansion vessel is that the correct place ?

Cheers

Clip should be on back side of the thermostat wireing box.
Tho as long as above burner should be fine.
Fire valve needs to be 90 °c the combi's especially can get over 70 c internally if in strong sun light.

Yes exedon this is the 90c version, it does make you wonder why they paint these exterior boilers greens & greys - dark paint attracts the heat - even though supposedly allows them to blend in .
