Does anyone know if a pumped hot water heating system can function as a gravity system if the power (needed for the pump) goes out? If not, is it possible to design a kind of "hybrid" system, which would be a conventional pumped system, but which could serve as a gravity system for at least a couple of rooms if the pump cannot function?

Why would anyone bother to go to all that trouble and extra expense when domestic pumps are readily available? That might be the reason.
Modern boilers are not suitable for Gravity operation and will not work.

Full gravity systems were fairly common on solid fuel years ago.

We fitted a few "linked" systems that could use oil and solid fuel. But were designed to revert to oil when no heat from S/F.

It would probably be easier to have two separate systems for what you suggest.
