Hi all.

Is it possible to tell if an o ring is made from natural or synthetic rubber (the one below in this case)?

If it is synthetic, would petroleum jelly/Vaseline be just as good as silicone grease?

If it is natural, is there an everyday/cheaper alternative to silicone grease? £3-£4 is still an expense/delay I could do without!

Thanks.

If it's to do the job properly then £3-£4 isn't false economy. Vaseline is mineral based and can degrade natural or synthetic O-rings. Don't believe there is an everyday alternative though I'm sure the GSR that's doing the job will have some with them.

Thanks Madrab. In that case, 'quickly' will have to be sacrificed in favour of 'properly'.
