Hi folks, this is going to sound a bit unusual, but can anyone suggest a substance that will mix/blend with water pump grease with a view to increasing the WP greases' consistency?
Having really purchased the product from Castrol I find that it is now much less viscous than it used to be.

Consider grease for marine applications - namely outboard motor bevel gear drive.....available from boat chandlers.
I don't think you'll ever blend your own and retain the same degree of lubricity.
John :)

Good thinking, though the reason I was hoping for a 'blend' was to save wasting twenty quids (1kg) worth of WP grease
Actually for my specific purpose the lubricity of the product isn't critical.

do you have reason to believe that a thicker grease is more suitable for this application?

If it’s any help, the thickest grease you’ll generally get is CV joint grease......being molybdenum based it’s black and messy as hell. Red rubber grease is another pretty viscous product but it’s designed to slide rather than spin if you can follow that one.

we use red rubber grease as a friction filler to prevent pivots moving easily in binoculars, to prevent threads moving out of focus, or the hinge flopping around. Even if the joint is loose or worn.

o_O Not exactly the effect I'm seeking, it's already too 'runny' compared to the last batch I bought about a year ago.
Thanks anyway.
Yeah my mistake, read it properly now.
Google LG280 and one manufacturer pops up amongst others, Reliable Grease and they have a “submit query” option as well as various tables given the specs of the greases.

Grease left in my grease gun for a long time, slowly forms oily drips out of the bottom of the grease gun, but thickens up towards the top. Is it possible that you just need to leave this grease in a container and allow the stuff to dry out a bit?

We used to use Duckhams Keenol as a waterproof grease for the propeller shaft of our boat, and it was excellent when it came to water resistance, but it no longer seems to be available.
