I have 6 tomato plants in grow-bags. They've produced a fair amount of tomatoes since mid-July but none of them have turned red. It'll be the end of August soon.

What can I do? I was hoping for nice, vine-ripened tomatoes but it looks like a glut of green tomato chutney :(

Remove the fruits and place them on a window sill in the sun. They will soon ripen in the warmth.

My mothers tomato plants have not ripened as yet, we actually spoke yesterday about how long it has teken and the chap next door is the same.

Mines are the same. Its the weather. You can stick some bananas beside them to help start the process. I did this last year before it got too cold, to get as many of what were left to ripen.

Once one or two start to turn red the rest should follow.

waste of time growing tomatoes if you ask me. I tried a few years ago, investing in the plastic greenhouse, the plants, growbag, fertilizer, religiously watering them. They all got blighted and not one was eaten. Sorry but for cheap tomatoes, its the supermarket for me.

should have invested in a sprayer as well.

I grow mine in the garden. No greenhouse, no growbags, little fertiliser, little need to water.

I put the banana with skin on directly below the plant. Since I was using pots I laid the banana on clingfilm so it was not touching the soil. You can use other fruit but bananas i think release more ethylene.

They've started to ripen now :D
That's good. Keep an eye out for botrytis if they are growing in a green house. Cold and humid conditions causes it. Get rid of any infected plant tissue quickly and carefully. Wash hands and tools before working on another plant.
