Hi All,

I living in a small studio, which I'm pretty content with and will remain in for the next couple of years at least. It's about time I see it as a home and not a place to rest my head.
I'm a big fan of grey colours and wanted to do the wood (doors, skirting etc) in one type of grey and then the walls, with new wallpaper to paint over in another. I've become bored of white gloss for wood as find it goes yellow, attracts more dirt etc so my question is really, does anyone have any ideas on the different tones (darker or lighter wood, and vice versa with the walls). I've seen a few designs online but they don't tell you the colour. In addition, if I was to eventually tackle the hardwood flooring, does anyone recommend any type of stain/colour to bring out the other colours?
Finally, can anyone recommend the type of paint for each for durability but also that will complement each other (satin etc). I'm good at the diy part but could do with some pointers on the design.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Cheers,

Conventionally, the colours become darker as you work down the walls, meaning that the skirting will be darker than the walls, and the floor will be even darker.

There are no hard and fast rules.

I am a decorator, but I seldom get involved in colour choices.

Apropos the flooring, will the landlord let you change the colour?

Good point and I've debated the floor. I'm more likely to clean the floor up and coat it close to original colour. Right now more interested in the walls and wood. Appreciate your input.

Some women have good eye for design. Entice one home.

Water gloss does not yellow and does not attract dirt like greasy oil paint. White and grey are monochromatic and will go well.
