Grout + copper

Hi,

Had my kitchen floor tiled and when I came home from work, found they’ve grouted around the radiator pipe to fill the hole. I’m presuming they didn’t bother wrapping the pipe in any sort of tape.

Is this going to be an issue down the line? I’ve read about thermal movement and if it’s likely to damage the pipe in future, would rather deal with this now. I’ve attached a pic.

Why do they do that...that pipe will now be solid and a PITA when it comes to replacing the valve etc.
What's wrong with a little silicon to finish round the pipe.

Same reason kitchen fitters completely box in boilers and plasterers luv filling in sparkies back boxs!!..

Urgh, not sure how to remedy the situation. Taking a hammer and chisel to it doesn’t seem the wisest move…

just gently chip a small line around it then seal with silicon

In that case, I’ll probably leave it and should that happen, I’ll chip away any loose debris then silicone up.

probably the easiest way or fit pipe collars they are very cheap and look better than silicone

TBF, if that is the only snag you can find, you have done well. IMO

Look a bit more and you may even be able to get flat ones rather than conical!

yeah, could use split collars in white or silver an similar finished pipe sleeves.
that looks like a DIY job? an old DIY job at that - dusty everywhere, unsponged grout haze on tile an a bold screwhead skirtin fixin?

to prevent sqeekin or tickin, all wet ,esp hot,pipework should be sleeved or staand-off clipped if it looks like touchin its surround.

Apart from that the tilers were rather poor in their standards of workmanship. The cutout for the pipe should be behind the tile facing the skirting, not at the front facing the rest of the world.

Are you sure that is actually grout ? looks more like silicon to me , in your pic the grout is a different colour, try prodding it with a small screwdiver to see if it is solid or flexible
