Hi, just had my bathroom done and our carpenter said he could also tile the shower area. He is a good carpenter and I (wrongly) assumed he would do a good job of the tiling.
A month in and now the shower leaks.
We fitted hardie backer board and he used Bal tile adhesive. Problem is, I now find that he put the adhesive onto the tile (not onto the backer board) and he didn't put the adhesive to the edge of each tile. This appears to have created a void under the edges of all of the tiles.
After hours of testing, we have established that the grout is letting water through, it is getting into the void at the tile joints, and running down to the bottom of the shower tray and out onto the floor.
I am hugely annoyed, but we are where we are and it will have to be fixed.
I don't really want to have to take all of the tiles off - would it be a viable option to take the grout out and re-grout ? If so, would epoxy grout be best.
I'll make sure I get the right man for the job next time!
