Grout Waterproofer/Sealer from shower

Hi all,

Has anyone used one of those grout waterproofers to help prevent grout absorbing water from the shower?

I am paranoid about leaks and mould so trying to do what I can to minimise water getting behind those tiles.

Yeah, I've used that exact stuff recently.

Too soon to make any long term comments, but you can straight away see the result - water no longer wets the grout, it just beads off it.

Don't know why they only sell it in minimum 1L quantities though - even if I redo it every 1 year, which is twice as often as recommended, I'll never use the rest of the litre I bought if I live to 100.

I thought the same. Was going to get the spray one but I prefer the cheaper and large bottle.

Did you use a small brush to apply it? How many coats did you do?

Spray one seemed like it would be messy and the majority would get wasted.

I used an artists brush to apply it. One coat all over the bathroom, but two in the shower area (I have a walk in / trayless shower)

OP,
if you have correct preparation behind the tile and grout then the "waterproofing" is mostly done. background prep rules in the tile world.

thats great to hear, perhaps you will give the tile forum a heads up in say 12 - 18 months time - i've always been sceptical about such applications but i'm willing to live and learn.
