Hi,

The Grunfos 15-50 heating pump on my central heating as start making a noise. The noise is intermittent and comes from the fact the pump is vibrating slightly but the pipes it is attached to doesn't have brackets holding it to the wall and so they also vibrate. If I gently touch the top of the pump casing the noise stops.

I am thinking the brackets not being in place on the pipe makes the noise worse as the pump isn't held but the pump is vibrating as the bearings are worn in the pump. I guess eventually the impeller in the pump will jam and the pump at that point will fail?

I don't want to replace the pump before it needs to but at the same time I don't want to leave it until it fails.

I know this is a "how long is a piece of string" but is this noise a sign the pump will fail relatively soon?

Thanks
Martin

Its a sign the pumps getting on a bit but try clipping said pipe and bang some inhibitor in whilst your at it.

Bite the bullet. Clipping pipework won't make any difference. If the pump was quiet before, then if it now vibrates, that will still reverberate through the pipework, it is in the nature of metal.
