Gtech hedge trimmer battery

Hi. The battery on my gtech cordless hedge trimmer is playing up and I can't find any clues online as to what might be causing it.
It's the 18v battery for the HT50/GT50 shown below

Mine is showing four solid red lights when I try to charge it, or if I just press the green button. I've tested the battery on my meter and it's showing almost 18v.
I've took it apart as much as I can to see if anything looks amiss but looks OK to me...

I can't see anything in the manual or online about four solid red lights. Initially I thought the battery was so flat it wasn't being recognised by the charger but with it being fully charged that isn't the case. Can anyone offer any advice please? Failing that I'll need to replace it but you're looking at about fifty quid just for the battery!

Does the hedge trimmer work using the battery. What do you mean by "playing up" When you get 4 red leds on a vacuum cleaner it means the brush bar has jammed. Sorry forgot to mention that bit - it just shows the four red lights when I click it into the trimmer. So it's almost like the battery is refusing to power the trimmer due to some kind of internal error or something wrong with the circuitry?

Although it isn't fully at 18v, I'd imagine it should at least power the trimmer even if not at full power.

18v is probably flat, or a duff cell. A fully charged working 18v battery, should be around 20/21v.
