I have the same problem as other members in that after adding a new radiator downstairs I now have noisy gurgling whooshing sounds in the hot water circuit. Only when on hot water. I have opened the vent by the hot water cylinder on the connections to the spiral inside the tank and only water comes out. I find it difficult to keep it open for too long as it soon soaks up the towels and cloths I use. Any help will be much appreciated.

it does sound like air in the system. one way to try is drain the system then attach a hose pipe to a drain off valve and back fill on mains pressure expelling any air out the expansion pipe. its worth a try and simple enough to do
is there a bleed valve or auto air vent on the cylinder coil?
if not and you feel confident you could try cracking the nut on the coil to let air out

there is a valve with a screwdriver slot on a piece of pipe about 4" long sticking up off the pipe going in to the top connection to the cylinder coil. I've undone this half a turn and water comes out. It seem to gurgle at the bottom connection to the coil. Thanks for the replies

Thanks for your reply. I'm not confident enough to start undoing the connections on the tank coil. I might end up flooding the house! There are gate valves fitted to each connection of the coil. Should they be fully open and if I closed the top one and then opened the vent screw will this force the air up the coil and out of the vent?
1 switch the pump etc off
2 close the valves
3 remove the vent screw have an old towel handy
4 put a bit of hose over the vent
5 open bottom valve and drain into a bucket
close valve replace vent
open valves etc
Your method kevplumb wouldn't work as the top gate valve was on the "wrong" side of the vent valve so couldn't isolate the hot side of the system to remove the screw. The gate valves are to isolate the hot side when replacing the tank. I did try undoing the valve half a turn and then quickly pushed an old washing machine outlet hose on and did it up with a jubilee clip. I let about a pint of water come out then removed hose and tightened the screw. Noises still there. It only starts to whoosh and gurgle after about 5-8 minutes of running. I might try the other suggestion of connecting a hose at mains water pressure to the downstairs drain valve and forcing water back up to the feed tank. I assume I don't need to drain the system first?
