Hi, I've been using a bosch gdr 18v impact driver for a while now and am consistently disappointed with its 'oomph' It won't drive a 100mm screw through a door casing into a timber stud, even with a full depth pilot hole. My old dewalt driver was way better.
I'm only using a 1.3ah battery, would an upgrade to a 3ah suddenly transform the performance ?
thanks.

ive got 1 of these, but using 3ah batteries, and have absolutely no trouble with it at all.

a brand new battery will give 100% and be ok
how old is you battery :?: :?:

more than 2 years old its on the down turn

the battery is the fuel tank the voltage is the engine
when you have a small fuel tank [which a 1.3 is the smallest] it will suffer from power loss much sooner than say a 2ah more normal battery

thanks for the replies,
both batteries are less than 12 months old, so should be fine.
when I use them in my drill, the performance is hardly sparkling, but adequate. But in the impact, seriously, it won't drive a 75mm screw into two piecesof 38mm cls, my old 12v dewalt can still do that and its about ten years old! so would a bigger battery make any difference?

to me 1.3 is a joke there is so little capacity before you get power loss

what date is on your batteries they may have been kicking around for years and that wont do them much good

Cheers so far chaps.
There's no date on the batteries that I can see, but I can't see they're too old as I bought them from a big online retailer.
Even so, the situation is this, old battery or new. pilot a hole, use impact to drive screw as far as impact will allow. finish off with normal driver as impact is c**p.
I use a bosch gsb 18v driver with a max of 45 torque things.
I use a bosch gdr 18v impact with a max of 160 torque things.
How in hell can the normal driver out perform the impact?
I've heard people say their impacts can snap screws, mine? I'm lucky if it'll stir tea!
Seriously, are impacts well overated or am I doing something hugely wrong??

chubber.

trust me an impact working properly is awsome
you can pull the head off a screw 2 inches into timber
now there is no reason to pull no8 or4.5mm screw into a bit off 6" timber but its fun and thats a 10.8v bosch
is your bosch green or blue ??
if its blue get a new battery off at least 2 ah and try that
as i say 1.3ah is pitiful its the minimum possible

Your impact driver is fecked mate. Doubt a new battery'll make much difference sorry bigall, sounds like even with a fresh batt he'd be able to see the thing performing like it should. Faulty driver imo.

quite possibly but no way off knowing
if the batteries have been kicking about unused in the shop for say 2 or 3 years the could be on the way out anyway as batteries prefer to be used rather than sitting on a shelve unloved
