Haven't they even tried to invent a plausible excuse?

Is she a Protestant?

Disgusting:

That poor little girl amongst her mates, how must she have felt. How must her parents have felt in front of all that crowed. Would have broken their hearts

Took a year for an apology. Said somthing like it was a personal dispute between one of the instructors (I think) and the family. There's no need to take thus out on a young girl. These people should be ashamed.

As Mrs Mottie said: Who was filming that? Why didn’t they challenge it? Where were the parents? Why didn’t they challenge that at the time? I bloody well would have done and I would have said something myself if I had seen something like that happen.

When it's yet another instance of a lifetime of discrimination, you tend to expect these kinds of ocurrences. And you learn to take it up quietly with the people near the top.
A demonstration and argument in front of all those little girls would not have been welcomed.

Damned if they did, and damned if they didn't.

Favourite nephews 8yr old boy is a promising tumbler & starting to take his gymnastics very seriously. His mam said summat that should make any parent of a budding gymnast shudder . . . .

If for any reason the coach does not favour the gymnast & that could include racial prejudice, then there is an increased risk of some very serious injuries. When they're that young & practising many things for the first times, it is vital that the coach's are on the ball. She says she can't watch some of the training as one false move or mistake must surely result in injury !

No need for a demonstration, just sidle up and say, "You missed one, and it's on film." Very quickly sorted. Doesn't stop her being a racist **** longterm tho'.
Like a parent, just sidling up to a group of children, in their finest gym kit, being presented with medals, is going to go unnoticed?
Others, the photogapher, the coach, the other officials, the rest of the audience, were happy to stand and observe without saying anything.

The judge had already made their prejudice obvious, a quiet word is hardly likely to change their mind.
And despite a later complaint to GI, they still did nothing.
GI, the sport’s national governing body, did not make any commitment in public statements to investigate the incident, implement anti-racism policies, or improve protection for athletes of colour. For 18 months, it did not apologise to the family.

It's obvious that if the Guardian had not reported it, if Simone Biles had not intervened the issue would never have been addressed

And even now the family are concenred about racist abuse being directed at them.
