I have a Haier American style fridge freezer. Normally the fridge is set at 5 deg c and the freezer at -18 deg c.
Recently the appliance has got quite noisy and the left side is quite warm (more than usual). The fridge temp remains constant but the freezer fluctuates, displaying different temperatures between 0 and -18.
Called the Haier engineer who basically removed the back cover, said that the compresser was hot and would require a specialist engineer to check the compressor and re gas the system.
There is only one compressor as far as I can see, and it seems odd to me that the fridge section is working OK. I would have thought a faulty compressor or lack of gas would have affected both.
They advised me that there was no charge for the first engineers visit as he didn't do anything! They quoted an inclusive price of £129 for the repair regardless of what labour time or parts are require, which I think seems reasonable.
Any freezer engineers here like to guess at what the problem might be? The appliance is just 5 years old, and I'm wondering whether or not to scrap it and buy a similar one, which would be around £800.
