we are trying to tile our bathroom and..

1. the tiles keep breaking when we try to cut them - they are 7mm thick
is that too thick for a basic hand cutter?

2. the tiles keep drifting away from our level line and each other.....????

you shouldnt have trouble with ceramics , what kind of tile are they ?

are you using a horizontal batten , spacers , an spirit level ? , you could use a batten fixed vertical as a straight edge .....

When i tiled my bathroom i invested in one of those electric tile cutters with a diamond wheel, about £30 from one of the diy places, i never broke a single tile. Maybe worth your while investing in one.

Thanks for the replies.
:)
We have hired an electric cutter, so hopefully that problem should be resolved.

The trouble we have had just fixing a batten to the wall  The darn thing was level, turn your back, and despite being nailed it was somehow out again. Now, having stuck four tiles on in four days, we have discovered that the ****** piece of wood we are using is warped..... and we have got to start again.

I'm sick of this bathroom already, and may buy a tin bath. :(
