So Im guessing its a problem with the wiring somewhere half way around the loop circuit. One light came back on for a few secs so its wiring loose.

Trouble is say 7 lights upstairs, 4 not working. So I guess any after light 4 on the loop is not working.

Out of those 4 which one to start at?

Is there any way to determine the order?

Pull the working light you think is easiest to get to, disconnect one side and see which ones are still working, might give you an idea of the route they took. There's as good a chance it's the last working light as the first one that isn't working where the connection is loose

Beware that the fault could be on the neutral meaning things are live which might not normally be

Look in the loft at the route of the radial or work it out from the upstairs rooms.

Have you worked on any light fittings or switches before some lights stopped working,or did they just stop working for no reason ?
Has anyone been in the loft ,possibly disturbed wiring up there ?

Nothing changed recently.....

I thought I'd fixed it yesterday but its still flickering/off-on.

Got a light fitting in the bathroom - the wires looked a bit burnt. I took it all apart and re-did the wiring and it seemed ok but nope back again.
I'm wondering if its the actual light fitting now?

Saying that the 3 red wires (that are linked) are the ones that go on to the other lights right? I can't see how these can be faulty. Its just 3 wires.
I'm wondering if theres a fault somewhere before this light fitting up in the loft (which is why this light fitting and 3 others are playing up).

You need to check the wiring at the light fittings that are working, one of them will supply the lights that are not working, check line and neutrals are intact ( not loose ,and clamped on their copper conductors at all terminals).
Do you have any electrical test instruments ?
